picnics to go!

Now in its 7th year, Picnics in the Park is now Picnics to go and has risen to the challenge of COVID-19, to continue to offer free nutritious lunches over the summer. This year there will be daily pick-ups at the high school, and mobile delivery at key points around the Island, three days a week.

Picnics to go is presented in partnership with:

Picnics in the Park begins on the first day of summer vacation and continues through the last day. Lunch includes a variety of sandwiches, a gluten free option, fruits, vegetables and snacks.  Three days week, the Children’s Librarian reads stories under the trees and hands out free books once a week.  Other volunteers offer physical activities, arts and crafts, music and mime.  The Fire Department is often on-hand once or twice to entertain and educate about fire safety.

Our Services

Grocery Service during covid-19

In response to COVID-19, the Vashon Food Bank continues to provide nutritious food to anyone in need.

The Vashon Food Bank is open for grocery pick-up during which time customers can fill out an order form that will be packed inside the food bank by staff and volunteers. Customers are encouraged to fill out their order and wait in their car until their groceries are packed. For those who arrive on foot, we have outdoor seating where customers can wait at an appropriate distance from one another. Staff and volunteers who are packing bags adhere to stringent sanitation and social distancing recommendations.

Any customer who is part of a vulnerable population (over 60, immune compromised, pre-existing respiratory condition etc), or who is self-isolating for other reasons, is strongly encouraged to sign up for Home Delivery.

Grocery Shopping @ Sunrise Ridge

The Food Bank offers weekly grocery pick-up times on-site at Sunrise Ridge, behind the Neighborcare Health Center.  We strive to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere and an experience that offers customers the dignity that comes with choice.

Customers choose from an array of items including fresh fruits and vegetables; protein sources such as chicken, fish, tofu and dairy; cereals/grains, canned goods, coffee/tea, fresh bread and pastries.  We also offer personal hygiene supplies, diapers and pet food.

We do our best to offer nutritious and healthy choices.

Anyone on Vashon in need of nutritious food is welcome to use the Food Bank. We don’t ask for any proof of need - nor do we ask for ID of any kind. Information is confidential.

Customers are welcome to come as often as every week, as needed, and are asked to bring their own bags to distribution.
